San Francisco

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

I just got back from my trip to San Francisco with my family, and I had a great time. We went to visit friends in Santa Cruz and tour Berkeley and UCSC. One thing I’ve noticed about California is that everyone is upbeat, from the street bums to the Silicon Valley executives. You can’t pull out a map for for than five seconds (literally, I timed it) without someone offering you help. Also, it is usually bright and sunny outside. However, we were a little unlucky with that. I had a great tour of UC Berkeley, which is situated in one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. Just as we were headed to Santa Cruz, we stopped at a gas station and met two rescue workers who informed us that most of the bridges were closed, and there was severe flooding due to a storm in the Santa Cruz area. Whoops! We had to turn around, and on the news that night we saw a weather reporter standing outside the very same gas station, braving foot deep water and high winds. I guess we’ll just have to use visiting Santa Cruz as an excuse to go back to California.

Mood SushiOur hotel was situated in the perfect part of Fisherman’s Wharf. It was pretty much surrounded by restaurants, and you have to be looking hard to find a bad one. Also, we were right between the cable car and the BART station. If you’re ever looking for sushi on Fisherman’s Wharf, I would strongly recommend Mood: Thai, Sushi, and more. Their menu consists of some great sushi, and some of the best Pad Thai I’ve ever tasted. The atmosphere is great, with a well lit setting right on Beach Street. I think than the Bay Area is great, and I love any reason to go there.
